Athlete of the Month - Bryan Schuster

Hey look, I’ll take the charity vote!!!

In all seriousness, I appreciate the nod. Trust me, this is a coveted award, one that I’ll remember for the the rest of my life. AOM is no joke. When I saw the email I said to myself I’d better step up my game, injured or not.
I’ve been at this shit for a long time. 15 years to be exact. My first WOD was fight gone bad, and I had to have my wife pick me up because I was afraid to drive home. You’ll see the irony later in the text.

I’ve seen people and boxes come and go, and have made many friends along the way. But there is something special about TNT. It truly is a family. I know that comes off cliche, but it really is. Everyone here supports the person next to them. If you don’t feel bad ass about yourself when you walk out of that building, your doing something wrong. Trust me, I’m old and I still feel(act) young because of this gym. In fact, I contribute my success as firetruck boss to this gym. I couldn’t do my job up to my standards without this programming. I believe that.

Times get tough. We all know that. If you do this long enough, you’re going to get some bumps and bruises. It’s the law of averages. But you have to find a way to get back in the game. We’re not equipped to sit. That’s why we’re family. The first thing I thought of when Rebecca picked me up and took me to the ER was when can I get back to the gym and when can I get back to work? It’s just who I am. And I think all of you are like that too, again, which is why we’re family.

I want to thank Courtney, Oscar and the rest of the team at TNT for the support. , as well as everyone for their calls and messages when I went down. I am so grateful for your concern and compassion. But most importantly, I want to thank everyone who has sweat next to me, cussed next to me, had a PR next to me and just had a great day next to me. You truly are my inspiration.

You didn’t think a torn Achilles would keep me on the shelf did you!?

Thanks again

Schu.
